| With summer is upon us,
we wanted to answer some of the questions our customers have
had about bringing their beloved pets to the Cape with them
when visiting.
Beaches:
On many of the Cape beaches, dogs are not allowed on the
beach from April 15 - September 15. But there are beaches
that do allow dogs all year round. The Cape Cod National Seashore
manages 6 beaches (Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro & Provincetown)
where you may bring your pet. Pets must be leashed, with leashes
not exceeding 6 ft. Pets are not permitted in public buildings,
picnic areas, self guided trails or on protected beaches.
The daily vehicle fee is $10. and a season pass is $30. These
rates apply from approximately late June until Labor Day.
More information on the CC National Seashore can be found
at: www.nps.gov\caco.
Additionally in Eastham there is Rock Harbor Beach which
allows dogs all year round. At the Orleans rotary, take the
exit to Rock Harbor, go past the courthouse on your right.
Turn right on Bridge St. and left on Dyan Prince Rd. all the
way to the end.
Safety Tips for the Beach:
- Be aware of riptides & undertow - please keep a close
watch on your pet.
- Shellfish, bones, fishhooks & plastic may be in beach
areas - watch what they eat!
- Hot sand can be detrimental to your dog's pads, causing
burns or discomfort. Treat by washing with cool water, followed
with antibiotic cream if so needed.
- Water - always have plenty of cool, fresh water with you
for your pet. Dogs do not sweat and may exhibit signs of
overheating by panting, vomiting, diarrhea or exhaustion.
Lots of exercise will prompt a need for fresh water.
- Saltwater - ingestion may cause diarrhea, vomiting or
dehydration.
